A straight answer
Is my website mobile friendly?
Open your site on a phone. A responsive site lays itself out for the screen it is on: the text should be readable without pinching, nothing should need sideways scrolling, and the number should be a button you can tap. If any of those fail, most of your visitors are meeting the site that way, because for a local trade or service the phone is where people look you up.
In the page itself, the sign is a viewport tag in the head. It tells a phone to fit the page to the screen instead of shrinking a desktop layout down to a postage stamp. A tag that also stops people zooming in is worth a look too, because small text becomes hard for some visitors to read at all.
The check below looks for the tag and reports what it says. It cannot see how the page looks on every phone, so it says what it found, not what it is worth.
- Fits the screen
- The viewport tag is there, so phones lay the page out for their width.
- Zoom allowed
- The tag does not switch pinch zoom off for people who need it.
- One tap to ring
- The phone number is a tel: link, not just digits in the text.
